NOAA West Coast Operational Forecast System, retained surface nowcast at 27 September 2026, 03:00 UTC. The regular-grid product is approximately 4 km. It does not resolve river flow, docks, or individual harbor channels.
WCOFS uses ROMS: hydrostatic, rotating-ocean equations derived from Navier–Stokes. This viewer traces the retained model output; it does not solve ocean circulation. Source integrity is checked, but local velocity and temperature errors have not been independently assessed.
Earth-relative east/north currents are averaged from the three wet corner samples of each display triangle. Temperature uses barycentric interpolation within the same triangle. Coastal gaps stay empty; the land mask is never filled.
Curves integrate up to 24 hours through one frozen velocity field. Movement is an accelerated display of its structure, not a forecast trajectory or changing model time. Temperature colors use a fixed 18–26°C scale.
The Ventura River line shows mapped geography, not flowing-water measurements. Installation labels are public geographic landmarks.
