LIVE PROCEDURAL STUDYREFERENCE: LINDSAY KOKOSKA · MORPHICA, 2026

Anatomy of the effect

Independent procedural reconstruction inspired by Morphica — Lindsay Kokoska / @infinite_mantra, 2026. The reference artwork and its video are not included.

Observed in the reference

Macro butterfly wings against near black. Pale blue and ivory membrane, amber accents, dark branching veins, scalloped edges, fine surface texture, and slow changes of wing pose and framing. The retrieved carousel includes a 21.47-second clip and four 5.37-second clips.

Reconstruction hypothesis

The original tools and production pipeline are unknown. This version uses four vector wing patches with matched boundary points that interpolate through four invented shapes. Veins and pigment share the same wing coordinates, so they remain attached as the outline changes. A shallow fold, slow rotation, light, and scale texture produce depth.

What is implemented

Reuse

Open this file directly in a browser or embed it in an iframe. The API below is available on the file's own window. It can also control a same-origin iframe after load. Values are deterministic except the elapsed playback time.

WingStudy.pause();
WingStudy.setPhase(0.35); // 0–1
WingStudy.setSpeed(0.5);  // 0.1–1.5
WingStudy.setView('specimen');
WingStudy.setPalette('amber');
WingStudy.play();
WingStudy.getConfig();

Shapes are artistic approximations, not anatomical or species-identification models. Compared with the reference, the material and vein network are simplified. Canvas rendering preserves the moving structure with simplified shading.
